Coastal Scents Eyeshadow Palettes - Original & Shimmer

My first ever beauty blog post. I'm excited & nervous so lets get cracking!

This is a review of the Coastal Scents Original 88 Eyeshadow Palette and the 88 Ultra Shimmer Palette. I received them in the mail after ordering them on special (I think the Original Palette was about $12US & the Shimmer was about $9US) I was excited because I'd heard quite good things about them and really done my research on whether they were worth the buy.

First off, living in Australia meant I got a massive shipping cost which was extremely disappointing. it was $33 in shipping (for the two palettes and a brush set which will be reviewed later). For that I would definitely be expecting to get everything in one piece. However unfortunately in transit two of the eye shadows had crumbled and got into all the other colours which was quite disappointing.

Despite this though I was super eager to get in and try them. Having recently just got into the whole makeup scene these have been my first non drugstore palettes that only have four colours etc.
I was incredibly suprised by the variation in pigment for these palettes. For some colours, there is barely any pigment at all, particularly the light colours which is bound to be expected. However there are even some deeper colours that really need to be packed on to achieve a good colour (this is after having an eye primer base too). Then there are some colours that just come out incredibly dark, such as the black. I know that sounds silly, but when some other dark colours aren't particularly strong it really takes you by surprise. I look like I'd been sweeping chimneys with my eyes.


Overall I think they're ok beginner palettes. They've got a great range of colours and the Original 88 has a mix of Shimmery colours and matte shades so you don't have to commit to one or the other. I probably wouldn't repurchase due to the cost of shipping and the variation in pigment but they're certainly worth a go for their price.
